It is with deep sadness we announce the
sudden passing of our husband and father D.
Winston Allen, age 82, of Oxford, at his home on
Friday, December 29, 2023.
Born in Amherst, NS, he was a son of the
late Joshua and Ethel (Chase) Allen.
Dad dedicated over 40 years of his life
to the funeral profession, owning and operating W. Allen Funeral Home
in Oxford with his family. Dad truly believed in the old
fashion values of the funeral home and believed that every family
should be treated as his own no matter the time of day or
night.
Ever dedicated to Oxford and Cumberland
County, he served on countless local boards and committees throughout
his working life. In his retirement years he received much enjoyment
looking at his Hereford cattle; they brought him hours of
amusement.
Winston will be deeply missed by his
loving wife Julia (Langille) Allen, Oxford; children Myrna Allen,
Truro, NS, Lisa (Perry) Wilson, Amherst, NS, Leonard, Oxford;
granddaughter Jay (Trevor), Pictou, NS; sister in law Carolyn Allen,
Halifax; daughter in law Danielle (Hardie) Allen, Wentworth, NS; as
well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was
predeceased by a brother Gilbert in infancy; brother Ainsley; sisters
O' Reta Allen, Ruby J. Allen and Lola (Charles) Van
Buskirk.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
W. Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water St.,
Oxford, NS (902-447-2167) where visiting hours will take place on
Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.
Winston's funeral will take place on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 2 pm
from the W. Allen Funeral Home, Dr. Rev. Glenn Matheson officiating,
followed by burial in the Oxford Pine Grove Cemetery.
